Hello to families of 2023-2024 NNHS student athletes!

As you may have learned, the Newton North Tiger Athletics Booster Club has very recently been re-constituted and re-energized.  The mission of the Booster Club is as follows:

  • Collaborate with NNHS Administration to foster and promote school spirit for ALLathletes and spectators
  • Support the NNHS Athletic Director and NNHS coaches by funding equipment and development activities specifically requested by the coaches and purchasing equipment with a broad range of use for the entire athletic community
  • Sponsor community building events with a balanced focus on fundraising and community engagement
  • Collaborate with NNHS Administration to advocate for all school athletic teams

As the mission states, our primary goals are to support the Newton North Athletics Department by fundraising for needs that are not otherwise being met due to budget constraints, to advocate for Newton North athletics within the community, and to increase awareness in the community of our fantastic Newton North student athletes and their successes.

To further our efforts, WE NEED YOUR HELP!  We are looking for additional parents to volunteer as a parent liaison to each athletic team.  If you are interested in getting involved and working with your student’s coach to disseminate information and provide feedback from coaches to the Booster Club, please reach out to one of the Booster Club’s co-Presidents: Kevin Conroy (kconroy@foleyhoag.com) or Linda Swain (lindadswain@gmail.com).

Recently, there was a huge effort by the Booster Club to gather support for the Newton North turf and track project, which was voted and approved at the December 18 City Council meeting.  The support that was garnered for this project by parents and students was a sight to be seen.  The approval of this project means that the City will be funding and performing the work during the summer of 2024 and our kids and community will have the benefit of the upgraded facilities for the 2024-2025 school year.

At this time, the Newton North Tigers have wrapped up the winter championship season and they have had a great year to date.  There have been countless achievements and successes by many of our teams and many individual athletes so far this year, and here is just a sampling of some highlights that you may have missed:

  • Girls Dance team won the Bay State Conference Title and the New England championships
  • Boys Basketball team qualified for the State Tournament for the 35th straight season
  • Gymnastics team are the Baystate Conference champions, they set a new school record of 144.6 and came in first in every event at the conference championships
  • Girls volleyball team won the Division 1 State Championships
  • Girls indoor track team won the Division 1 State Relays

For the full athletics schedule, check out:  https://www.arbiterlive.com/School/Calendar/26531.  You can customize the Arbiter app to track a specific team’s schedule and receive notifications of changes.  To download the app visit https://www.arbiterlive.com/  or choose Arbiter Sports from your app store.

We are looking forward to continuing to stay in touch with all of you as the year progresses (although we promise not to flood your inboxes even more than they already are).  Be on the lookout for more information, including for info about the Booster Club website which will launch soon, and please contact anyone listed below if you are interested in volunteering your time and energy to support our student athletes.  And in the meantime, please be sure to follow @newton_north_tigers on Instagram and @NNHSTigers on Twitter/X to get all of your Newton North Athletics news!
